Magu. A clinical officer with Magu District Hospital Moses Mjuni, 42, was killed on Friday in an accident which involved a vehicle carrying Tarime Urban Member of Parliament, Ms Ester Matiko.
The accident occurred around 8pm at Kitambaa Village, a few kilometres from River Simiyu.
Speaking to The Citizen yesterday, Ms Matiko said, “I suspect that the bodaboda rider was sober because my driver did all that he could to avoid hitting him, but still the motorcyclist came to our side of the road,” she said.
A pedestrian who witnessed the accident, Mr Milanjo Elias, said the clinical officer emerged from a footpath with the bike and entered the main road without precaution while Ms Matiko’s vehicle was at a high speed. “This vehicle was moving in a high speed while the motorcycle man entered the road carelessly and he was knocked,” he said.
According to Magu District Commissioner Khadija Nyembo, when the accident occurred Ms Matiko’s vehicle was heading to Tarime from Dar es Salaam. “The deceased’s body has been preserved at the Magu District Hospital’s morgue while Ms Matiko’s driver is detained by police as investigation into the accident continues,” said the DC.
Mwanza Regional Police Commander Ahmed Msangi was not immediately available give a comment.
